 MvdV> No, it didn't.

Yes it did...I mentioned my 56 in passing during the discusssion. I got to
inspect it before I bid on it, as it was an afternoon ride to and fro.

MvdV> It started out with "a vehicle too far away to drive there and back
 MvdV> in one afternoon"

See above.

 MvdV>  ===  Quote  ===

RW>> Sure. If you are interested in a vehicle that's too far away to
RW>> drivethere and back in one afternoon to take a look at it, you can
RW>> hire a person in that area that does vehicle inpections for a
 RW>> living.

MvdV> It *after that* that you mentioned the 56 Chevy and you said you
MvdV> did NOT do it that way:

All in one message that you're now trying to squirm out of not taking the
responsibility for not reading.

RW>> I was able to drive to Elgin, TX to inspect my 56, before I even put
 RW>> a bid on it.

MvdV>>> When I buy a car at the local garage, I get a guarantee.

RW>> A used car has a 30 day guarantee offered by the local garage or
 RW>> used car lot.

MvdV> When I bought my Volvo the garage gave me a one year guarantee.

Wonderful. When I bought my 2002 Silverado in SD, I also got what was left
of the original factory warranty. It originally sold with a factory 36
month or 36,000 mile warranty and it had 27,000 miles on it when I bought
it. The last factory recall was serviced here in Texas with 32,000 miles
on it.

MvdV> When I brought it in for the yearly inspection the exhaust was
 MvdV> replaced under guarantee....

Mine was in for 'factory' recall service twice that first year. One of
those recalls was about the tailgate cable that 'might' fail while the
gate was down and some weight put on it.

The other one was about plastic headlight 'fogging' problem, impairing the
ability of the light to function as designed. They gave me new headlight
housings for the old.

MvdV>>> A guarantee that means somethings as when something gooes wrong
MvdV>>> I can go there and get it fixed. How do I do that with a
 MvdV>>> sellerr 1000 kmm away?

RW>> In that case, the person you hire guarantees that what he's reported
RW>> to you is what you'll get. Plus there is always CarFax, which gives
RW>> you a complete history of the vehicle from day one of it's life.

MvdV> How do I cash in on it when something goes wrong? When it breaks
MvdV> down on me how do I get the seller tp pay for the cost of repairs?

Didn't you read what I said? The inspector 'guarantees', means that you
get a guarantee from him. i.e. he stands behind his report with a
guarantee that it is what he says it is, or you get compensated for any
repairs, etc.. If he provides you with a CARFAX report, that company also
guarantees that the vehicle is what they say it is in their report. i.e
total milage is as they report, accident records if any are as they
report, damage, sales, owners and registrations are what they say they are
in their report. If they aren't, you get compensated for any mistakes they
may have made.

MvdV>>> No matter how skilled and trustworthy that person is, he/she
MvdV>>> can never judge if I am going to *like* the car. Only I can
 MvdV>>> judge that.

Then you have no business buying a car where you can't depend on someone
else to judge it for you.

RW>> That's right. For a person like you, only seeing the vehicle up
RW>> close and personal would satisfy you. That's why they make airplanes
RW>> and sell tickets to fly on them, so you can go look at it yourself.

MvdV> I am not ineterested in rare old cars. I want a car as a means of
MvdV> transport. There is plenty pf local supply, so I buy locally.

Then why did you enter into this conversation? This is not a 'buy it
locally' discussion.

RW>> You say you're a cheap Dutchman, so you probably wouldn't buy an
RW>> airplane ticket to go look at a rare specimen in Italy.

MvdV> Indeed I would not. I am not a collector of rare specimens.

Another reason to stay out of this conversation.

MvdV>>> We don'really have used car lots here. Most used cars are sold
MvdV>>> by dealers who get them through trade-ins. The second channel
MvdV>>> is person to person sale without a dealer.

RW>> Unlike Europe, in the US we have the freedom to select vehicles from
RW>> dealers, dealer used car lots, independent used car lots, dealer
RW>> auctions, reposessed vehicle auctions thru banks, credit unions,
RW>> wholesale sellers, private sellers and the list goes on and on.

MvdV> Eh?? What makes you think we do not have that freedom here?

If you do, you would have mentioned them.
