Cast steel. Cast iron is too soft to live very long with the constant
movement of pistons.

 DC> Not all tubing is stainless.  And, even stainless will rust.

A friend of mine found a 25yo Buick that he wanted to buy. When he asked
me to inspect it for him, I found stainless brake lines that were rusted
thru and leaking fluid on everything. It was a nice car for it's age, but
the underlying rust problem made it unworthy of a guy who has little
mechanical apptitude.

Which is the cause of brake fade. I let my sister use my Corvette to take
my BIL to work one day. She came back with red hot brake drums on the
rear. I wondered what was up and asked her if she had ridden the brakes
all the way home. She said she noticed a peculiar smell, which was brake
linings burning. Come to find out she had the parking brake on the whole
time. I had to let the brakes cool for about an hour before I could drive
it and have brakes.

His Mazda has a cast iron block and alloy head. Once the radiator gave up
and the engine overheated, the possibility of the head warping is very
high. Replacing the radiator is the least of his problems. And the
head gaskets get eaten up by dialysis of the dissimilar metals and
coolant.
