Hello David.

17 Jul 07 08:54, you wrote to me:

 DD> Hello Jeff.

 DD> 16 Jul 07 08:55, you wrote to me:

DD>>> When you were a moderator were you unable to separate that from

JS>> On the contrary. I did not have a problem separarting the

DD> But... this is as suitable outlet for his opinions as any other echo.
DD> Why should the rest of the Fidonet sysops get to post here, but he is
DD> forbidden. Is such discrimination a normal thing in your way of life?

Do you choose not to undestand? It isn't a matter of discrimination
and he is not forbidden. If anything it is a matter of common sense. If
someone knowingly acts in a manner that makes their job needlessly harder.
That to me shows a lack of common sense. No one is forbidding Felten
anyhing. That is only what you are suggesting it to be. He has any number
of forums to express himself. If Felten chooses to alienate people in the
echo that he is trying to moderate. It would seem that either he doesn't
care about the Fidonews echo and it intended purpose or he is more
interested in using the Fidonews echo for his own personal platform. In
either case Fidonet and Fidonews suffers.

DD>>> All sysops have as much right as each other to express an
 DD>>> opinion.

JS>> Yes, all SysOp's have the right of expression. BUT, the key
JS>> is if they have the wisdom to know when it is best to not express
JS>> themselves. That would hold true for users but especially for
 JS>> moderators.

DD> Moderators are just people too - they're not gods of any sort.

Someone doesn't have to be a God to use common sense David.

 DD> [...]
DD>>> How can he moderate any more effectively? The prime offenders
DD>>> ignore his moderation requests. Not being an executioner there
DD>>> is very little else he can do.

JS>> He has dug the hole that he finds himself in David. The
JS>> prime offenders ignore him because (In part) he has made them
JS>> want to ignore him based of his actions. Some of the blame needs
JS>> to go to the users too. But a moderator only makes his/her job
JS>> worse when they end up alienating the users.

DD> Some of the users are very well behaved.

Yes they are and I would say that they are probably smarter than us
too. As they are smart enough to avoid the temptation to join in the chaos.

DD> Do you think he should back down and crawl to those few Z1
DD> rabble-rousers? Would than improve his standing in their eyes then?

Back down from what? Most of what we see Felten do is post his
anti-american messages. There is no need for Felten to crawl to anyone.
An effective moderator wouldn't have to.

 DD> [...]
DD>>> I've been published in this echo - over quite a few weeks. I
DD>>> think that those who are most distressed by the lack of articles
DD>>> should be the first to submit - they should "lead" by example.

JS>> Works for me. It would be nice if people could set aside
JS>> their dislike of the current moderator/editor and submit articles
JS>> anyway. But sadly I don't expect any increase in articles with
 JS>> the current situation.

DD> Why do they dislike the current moderator? What is it about his
DD> moderation habits that pisses them off?

Many dislike him based on his posts as a user. Many dislike him as
a moderator because they see him as non-existant in that capacity. Many
see him as a modrator only caring about using the Fidonews echo to express
his own personal ideas and not use the Fidonews echo for it's intended
purpose. These are but a few things that I think piss people off about
Felten as the moderator.

 DD> [...]
JS>>>> Actually I honestly dislike bitching and complaining. The
JS>>>> primary reason I don't write much is that I am not as
JS>>>> proficiant at writing as I would like to be. Should have spent
JS>>>> more time studdying english in school I guess.

DD>>> Let the editor tidy up your submission - after all, that _is_
 DD>>> his role.

JS>> It's just a personal thing David. I think that what I write
JS>> should convey what I am trying to say. And it annoys me when I
JS>> know what I want to say but can't find the right verbage to say
JS>> it. If you mean putting in missed periods or commas, Etc. That
 JS>> would be fine.

DD> have you tried putting pen to paper... er.. finger to keyboard? Until
DD> you start typing it you will never get in in a state suitable for
 DD> publishing.

That's usually how I have to end up doing it. Sit down and start with
an empty page. (Like Duh... <g>) And then just do my best to transfer my
thoughts onto the page. Where I get annoyed is when I keep trying to find a
better way to say something.
