RC>>> Our Generals in WW2 were young officers in WW1 and before..

BF>> Yeah, well, if you say so. My impression from various interesting
 BF>> History Channel shows

Gee, who and where have we heard about the in-accuracy of history from
hollywood before? Bjorn Felten, of course.

BF>> seem to indicate otherwise, but you're closer to the horse's mouth
BF>> than I am so who am I to dispute your experteese?

As if he had any experteese (sic)...heh, heh, heh...my 8yo grandson has
more expertise than the Felten.

 RC> Macarthur was a Major in WW1.
 RC> Bradley was a Captain in WW1.
RC> Eisenhower was a Temp Lt Colonel In WW1, he spent the war training
RC> soldiers stateside, afterwards he reverted back to Captain.
 RC> Patton was a Captain in WW1.
RC> George C Marshall, was a Captain and then a Major in WW1.

 RC> These were the notables.

RC> Do you have evidence to the contrary?

Meanwhile, Hitler was a corporal and most of his WW2 generals date from
WW1 as well.

WW1 Status of the German notables:

Erwin Rommel, Captain
Friedrich Paulus, Captain
Herman Goring, Captain
Gerd von Rundstedt, Major (Germany's oldest, joining the Army in 1892)
Erich von Manstein, Captain

That list goes on and on.

It seems that Sveden didn't have a commanding general until WW2,
previously that was the job of their King.

 RC> Name them.

RC>>> Good grief, we were in a economic depression,

BF>> Yes you were. And it seems like almost not a single living USAian
BF>> today can realize that the only reason you got out of it was that
BF>> the Brits had to ship all their gold to you in order to pay for all
BF>> the overpriced war hardware needed to fight off the Nazis.

RC> Actually it was the wartime economy that really shook off the
 RC> shackles of the depression.

RC> Of course anything we did surpassed anything you all did back then.

And since.

RC>>> Remember our military wasnt anything to be afraid of either,

BF>> Yes I know, Ross. And I will never take a swipe at any of the
BF>> people not even born by then, just to make a funny point about that,
BF>> that I can assure you! Unlike some... :(

RC> What I meant by that was we didnt have sufficient troop strength or
 RC> hardware.

RC>>> That patriotism thing you all detest,

BF>> Ah yes, that stupid obsession that can even make women send their
BF>> kids to be killed just because some politicians have a disagreement.
BF>> I think we know all about it, and I also think that the majority in
BF>> this exceptionally fine echo finds it remarkable that 21st century
BF>> people can fall for this hype even as we speak.

RC> British Patriotism allowed them to survive the blitz, French
RC> Nationalism allowed those French to unite and resist, same with the
 RC> Dutch.

RC> You all didnt have the stomachs to fight for your freedoms, you let
RC> others sacrifice themselves for you.

Bravo...well said.

BF>> It's so easy to stand up many years later and tell everybody how
BF>> they should have acted. So many years later you weren't even born by
BF>> the time the decisions was taken.

RC> Time is linear, you spend so much time bellyaching about the US and
RC> its foreign policies, you refuse to admit that WW2 forever changed
RC> our view and outlook on that aspect. After being sucked into 2 of
RC> your conflicts, it was determined that a inward looking attitude
RC> would no longer cut it.

RC>>> The USA cannot enter into a legally binding treaty with a foreign
 RC>>> state w/o Congressional Approval.

BF>> But you can invade a sovereign state without said approval?
BF>> Forgive me if I detect yet another case of double standard and/or
 BF>> hypocrisy here...

RC> Congress did approve via resolutions passed in October 2002.

And of course, UN resolution 1441 was already passed by the UNSC, so there
was no further approval needed.
