Too much Oxygen saturation in the bloodstream leads to hyper-ventilation.

12 years ago, I was injured on the job, had a bundle of shelving uprights fall
over and hit me, darn near killed me. I had a crescent shaped gash on my
forehead, with a considerably large flap of skin, they stitched it shut but
they were fearful I would lose that flesh and skin that was part of that flap.

So for the next 10 days, I went each day for a 90 minute session in a
hyperbaric oxygen chamber at 1.5 atmospheres of pure Oxygen. The idea was to
saturate my body with enough Oxygen to give the healing process a boost and to
save the flap. At 30 minute intervals I was told to put on a breathing mask and
I would be breathing in outside air ( I dont know what mechanism accounted for
the pressure differences, but the process was meant to prevent O2 poisoning)

It was a partially successful procedure as I only lost the outer edges of the
flap.
