So, roughly 200 pounds. You won't see any buck running around in groups in
Arizona or California. Ours are really wild, the uros are tame by
comparison.

I wouldn't try that either. Many years ago, an aquaintence of mine from my
high school years, used to hunt them at night with a flashlight and a
club. aka poaching. One night he made the nearly fatal mistake of grabbing
a small buck by the antlers. That buck racked that guys innards to the
ground with his hind legs. He was lucky he didn't go into shock and pass
out before he was able to drive himself to the hospital. I often wondered
if he had 'guts' enough to do that again. :o)

And that would be a big one. Most are smaller than a Great Dane. They
don't taster very good either. The next time you get to the mountains,
take a look at what they have available to eat. Mesquite, pine and oak
leaves.

I used to hunt on a big ranch by Temecula...don't know who owned it, but
it always had plenty of deer on it. I was told that John Wayne and his
friends hunted there, but I never saw him or that group. In recent years,
that ranch as been converted to Avacado ranches...If you drive up to
Temecula and get off on Rancho California Road and look up at the range of
small mountains to the west, That's where I hunted deer and quail for
years.
