There is no corrosion and even if there was, it would take a lot longer
for an oil drum to rust at sea than it would in your back yard. Wood?
Since when is an oil drum made of wood?

If it were left floating, it would have been found. Bodies wash up on
shore...

I doubt that she would put her parents through what we've seen in the past
two years. She would have had to have a very bad relationship with them to
even think about that.
