MVDV> The fact that you refuse to answer is relevant. It
MVDV> demonstrates that you have semething to hide.

Like most people, there are many things that I do not wish to become
subject to public knowledge and I control what I allow to become public
and I also control who I trust with my information. I've never said I
had nothing to hide, but what I am saying is that I am not so paranoid
that I choose to not utilize services that are useful to me just because
some limited information is shared with outside parties. I do choose to
use credit cards for the reasons previously stated, and I do choose to
use the telephone, and I do choose to use the internet, and I do choose
to use email. In each of those cases, I do so because the benefits to
me outweigh the potential disadvantages. Your mileage may differ.

DS> I have not said that a person does not have a right to privacy -- they
DS> do. What I am saying is that there is no need to be so ultra
DS> sensitive about records of transactions that are between you and the
DS> companies you deal with. Those records are not public knowledge, and
DS> have little chance of becoming disclosed outside of the intended set
 DS> of people.

 MVDV> You are naive.

You have no clue.

MVDV> Computer controlled telephone exchanges changed that. It became
MVDV> possible to log all calls. Numbers called and duration. A great help
MVDV> for resolving disputes. Some were concerned about privacy.
MVDV> After all, itis nobody's bussiness who I call and how long.
MVDV> The phone companies made sollumn promises thet stored data
MVDV> would only be used for resolving disputes over the bill and
MVDV> that they would be kept no longer than needed for that
 MVDV> purpose.

MVDV> But then the spooks thought they could mine those call
MVDV> records to find bad guys. So they managed to get the law
MVDV> changed so that the telcos are now obligated to keep the
MVDV> call records for 10 years and make then available to law
MVDV> enforcement. And so it happened.

So your response would be that you should only use letters and carrier
pigeons to communicate? You have a problem with legitimate law
enforcement catching and prosecuting criminals? The type of access you
are hinting at requires vetting by a judicial procedure.

MVDV> Amd now the same thing is happening with bank data.

MVDV> If you believe your transaction records are between you and
 MVDV> the bank, dream on.

No dream, it is the way it is -- until a judge grants a warrant for
access. That is only done on probable cause. The same conditions apply
to information stored on your home computer. Hence the same logic says
that you should not use it either?

Get back to the primary statement.

When I compare the pros and cons of credit card versus cash, for me the
credit card wins hands down. The only time I would use cash is when the
merchant does not accept a credit card.

If your situation and priorities are different, so be it.
