Ärende: Welcome to the 21st century in a supposedly civilized country
=====================================================================
HI ROy,

On Thu 2039-Jan-13 13:22, Roy Witt (1:387/22) wrote to Richard Webb:

<snip>

 Roy>> Well, a lot of water has passed under the bridge since then, but
 Roy>> we're still having fun. :o)

 RW> YEp that's for sure, we just pay more for it later, even if
 RW> it didn't involve mind altering substances. Even doing good
 RW> "wholesome" fun means I recuperate for two days afterword <grin>.

RW> LOL! That reminds me of when I told this old-timer (I was probably
RW> 30, he was in his 50s) that drinking Tequila didn't give you a
RW> hangover. He came to work on Monday after a Saturday binge and
RW> cussed me out because he had the biggest hangover he'd ever had in
RW> his life.

<rotfl!!!> I can believe that one. IT took me two days to
recover from the setup and running comms for a two day 150
bike ride back in September, and I wasn't even pedaling a
bicycle, just putting up a couple antenna masts and moving
some gear around.

 RW> YEp, can picture that. Try standing at the front of house
 RW> mix position in the middle of such an environment. NO need
 RW> to partake when one of the numerous left handed smokes was
 RW> handed your way, just pass it on. YOu were getting off on
 RW> the fumes <g>.

Roy> Been there many times.

OH yeah, if you haven't been it's hard to grasp the concept, but even if you
didn't you were gonna leave with a buzz. We used to blow out the fan ducts and
filters for all the power amplifiers and such after one of those shows.

 Roy>> My girl friend at the time, worked for a body recruiter next door
 Roy>> to a small tavern on El Cajon Blvd, in SD. I'd go in there to wait
<snip>
 Roy>> sign was rapidly rolling over the rocks in a stream. (that sign was
 Roy>> just a picture and had no graphics)

 RW> YEp can believe that too. ONe I never experienced, but I
 RW> used to say it was good stuff if I went to walk two or three miles
 RW> and couldn't even feel my feet slapping the pavement <grin>.

Roy> LOL! Or your mind tells you that you have two feet but can't find
Roy> one of them.

Feet, what feet? I was just floating down the road now.
<hmmm> feet, guess I'll take your word for it if ya tell me I got two of 'em
<grin>.

<snip again>
 RW> YEp, we get older, and hopefully smarter.

Roy> I often wonder what happened to those who didn't.

I do too, then I figure that often I'd probably rather not
know. THere were some from my younger days all I had to do
was watch their usual behavior and just know that guy was
heading for a big crash and burn. One in particular
ingested all sorts of substances one night at a minor league baseball game, and
then more as we were cruising around
after the game. wHen we couldn't revive him we rolled into
the ambulance ramp at the local hospital er, opened the back door of the car
and just shoved him out onto the curb then
ran for the pay phone at the all night diner and called the
hospital and told 'em to come get him.
tHing was, the lady worked the switchboard at that hospital
was my girlfriend's mom, and she kept asking for my name and I wouldn't tell
her, and she kept saying "I think I
recognize the voice ... " so I just hung up.
I at least told her who he was though <grin>.

 Roy>> I was lucky enough where the glove compartment was close enough.

 RW> YEp, but in old blind man's case we were going her place, my place or
 RW> the nearest motel room, or wherever we could get some privacy. That
 RW> was the one complaint I had the most as a young man about being a
 RW> nondriver, no ready made place for such activities <grin>.

Roy> In those cases it's good to have a wallet full.

YEp that is for sure. OFten costs a bit more too <grin>.

Regards,
           Richard
