That's why I said he 'claimed' to have done this. I was skeptical at the
time and figured him to be full of it, but had no way to prove it, not
being "in country" myself. It was a nice story that kept everyone he told
it to interested for a long while.

The part I skipped and was probably as true as the POW part was that he
was gone for so long. That period was long enough that no one had heard
from him in years and that his wife married another in his absence. After
he was declared MIA, presumed dead (meaning the B52 was down with him
assumed still onboard). I met her once and she related to me that the
elapsed time coincided with his story. She also backed his statement that
he was in the AF and was a tailgunner on a B52. Maybe all that time he was
with Sheen and Brando, smoking shit in their hidden lair, up that same
shit creek in the jungle.
