========================
Lee,

LL>WD>And the fuel-system of Boeing airplanes also is metric from
LL>WD>the 767 onward. Which is the main reason BTW that this Air Canada
LL>WD>767 ran out of fuel and made the first ever dead-stick landing of a
LL>WD>major commercial airframe.

LL> I seriously doubt it was a real "dead-stick landing" - as there has
LL> only been ONE documented case of a commercial aircraft ever having

LL> had NO FUEL and in effect glided to a landing. Investigators could

LL> simulators.

What I like about you is that a total lack of knowledge or fact has never kept
you from saying things you shouldn't say ...

There are so far 6 documented cases of passenger jetliners that made successful
dead-stick landings that I know of:

July 23 1983: "Gimli Glider" An Air Canada Boeing 767, ran out of fuel en route
from Montreal to Edmonton. The plane had insufficient glide range to complete a
diversion to Winnipeg, but the crew managed to make a successful dead stick
landing at an abandoned airfield at Gimli, where a car rally was underway on
the runway.

Aug 24 2001: Air Transat Flight 236: An Air Transat Airbus A330 also ran out of
fuel while flying across the North Atlantic, from Toronto to Lisbon. The crew
glided the aircraft over 100 miles and made a deadstick landing at a military
air base in the Azores.

May 24 1988: TACA Flight 110: A Boeing 737-300 traveling from Belize City,
Belize to New Orleans, Louisiana, that lost power in both engines, but made a
successful unpowered landing on a grass levee at NASA's Michoud Assembly
Facility in the Michoud area of eastern New Orleans.

July 12 2004: Hapag-Lloyd Flight 3378: An A310 en route from Greece to Germany
experienced a landing gear problem and subsequent fuel depletion, resulting in
a deadstick landing in Vienna.

Jan 15 2009: US Airways Flight 1549: An A320 en route from New York City's
LaGuardia Airport to Charlotte, North Carolina that lost both engines when it
struck a flock of Canada Geese on take-off and successfully ditched in the
Hudson River adjacent to Manhattan with no loss of life.

Jan 17 2008: BA38 a Boeing777 en route from Beijing to London Heathrow. Ice
crystals in the fuel lines clogged fuel flow to the engines and while the
engines kept functioning, they provided no thrust and the craft glided to a
landing short of the runway.

Interesting detail, in three of these six incidents, something Canadian is
involved.

Also remarkable, the name of the second officier who was flying the 777 was
Coward.

Now the name of the captain of the TWA 747 that exploded off the coast of Long
Island in 1996 was Kevorkian though in the public reports the name of the
relief captain, Steven Snyder, is used.

The Denver-incident ... there has "never" been a dead stick landing of a
commercial airliner in Denver. There are several other newsflashes about
Denver, a couple unscheduled landings, a runway incursion .... "no" dead stick
landing.

LL>WD>Pilot calculated the necessary fuel in kg, fueler put in that
LL>WD>amount in lbs.

LL> The Air Canada 767 still had enough fuel to land. Which means
LL> it was NOT a "dead-stick landing".

It's tanks were dry.

Besides ... a "dead-stick landing" means there is no engine propulsion. The
tanks can be full, as was the case with USAir 1549.
