Working people pay into Medicare their entire career.  That is what funds the
plan for when you retire (if you ever can).  I am basically paying for people
that are retired now, and when/if I ever retire, younger people will be paying
for me.

Not everyone has to pickup all the insurance plans.  I could decide to get my
own personal plan on my own, be on my wife's plan at her work, etc.  You can
get just health with no prescription meds, etc.  Not everyone wants to get life
insurance, so they are all optional.  For instance, if my wife's work offered
better health insurance at a better price, I wouldn't get that benefit at my
work.  

We don't have an official government health insurance - other than Medicare and
Medicaid.  I believe you have to be at least 65 years old to sign up for
Medicare.  Personally, I don't want government health insurance.  Our
government can't run it's own operations properly, the last thing I would want
is them running my healthcare.  The private sector is always better in my
opinion.  What would help our healthcare situation a great deal, is the
following two problems:

1)  Tort reform. (lawyers sueing doctors for everything they can think of) -
which unfortunately screws it up for the people that really do have legitimate
claims.

2)  Allow health insurance providers to cross state lines.  More competition is
always better.

I do agree that there should be some "guidelines" that the medical insurance
providers should following - one being getting rid of the "pre-existing
condition" item.  Most of the problems with healthcare we have today could be
solved by those two things.
