Yep, and those inca messengers chewing those leaves could
really truck too!  I remember doing a gig 30 miles away from my home at a
university one night back a few decades ago.  A guy turned me onto a gram of
some pretty good stuff that
night, and it went up my nose after the show and after gear
was packed into storage again.

I had about 300 newspapers to deliver, the newspaper
business helped keep body and soul together.  I noted as I
got to them that I was about an hour and a half late getting started.

SO I moved along tossing newspapers on porches and in front
of apartment doors figuring I was going to get a lot of late newspaper
complaints, never even bothered to look at the
time.  AT the end of the last route I often stopped by an
allnight grocery store to get a snack, and sometimes caught
the first inbound bus back home from there.

I arrive at the store to see the morning bread delivery in
progress, which surprised me, as I figured I was running
quite late.  I saw the guy come out to his van and commented he must be running
late.  HIs answer "nope, right on
schedule."

So, I look at my watch.  I was maybe 15 minutes later than
usual.

<wow!>

THose inca messengers did that in some pretty rugged terrain too.  IF it didn't
blow your heart out one misstep on the
side of that mountain and it was all over!

IT is indeed a dangerous drug if misused and not understood, and has a variety
of applications.  That's why you'll still
find it in hospitals and elsewhere.  That episode convinced
me to quit playing with it.
