It does not get "uncomfortably cold" here - also one's comfort level may vary
depending on one's previous experience and tolerance. The first winter I lived
here I never donned a jumper and wore short trousers the whole time. Even now
that I'm 30 years older, the only time I rug up in the winter is when I'm
riding my motorcycle.

"In the tropics"? The tropic of Capricorn is about 300 miles north of here. The
number of unfriendly natives is minimal, the diseases easily avoidable, the
insects repellible, and bugger all in the way of wild animals (in the towns and
cities).

It is possible to live here quite comfortably without aircon (I have no aircon
in my home).

No typhoons here, they're a northern hemisphere problem. We have the occasional
cyclone, but they're mostly much closer to the equator.

I don't bitch about the cold here. I spend nothing on heating (or cooling).
