We have a don't call list in The Netherlands. It works very well. Haven't got
an unsollicited advertising call in years.

I suppose one of the advantages of living in a small minority language area is
that it is unattractive to outsource these activities. I got some calls form US
call centers in the past, but that was a long time ago. They seem to have found
out that in order to do bussines you must address the potential customer in his
own language.

So why do the US and Canada not enter into a bilateral agreement where they
agree to respect each others don't call lists?

In thelate fifties and early sixties we had a "problem" with commercial radio
stations operating from ships in international waters. Commercial radio was
illegal in The Netherlands but nothing could be done against thsoe ships as
they were in international waters and operated under the flag of some banana
republic.

And then they found the solution... Follow the money... The source of income
for these "sea stations" was advertising for companies doing business in the
Netherlands. So.. they made it illegal for Dutch companies do do business with
them. Poof went their business model....
