there's nothing about facebook, itself, that it interesting in my eyes... it
is, however, a place where one can catch up with friends and family as well as
making new friends... call it a global bbs if you will...

1. i heard pretty much the same thing for AOL and other similar services.
2. what advertising? i see none at all on FB ;)

thee were packet proposals that would allow for such in fidonet but they never
really got anywhere... i remember offering assistance on several of them in the
NET_DEV echo where FTN technology discussions used to take place and where
proposals were presented for feedback and dissemination before they were
submitted to the FTSC some time later...

ummm... there's still plenty of data-mining that can be done in fidonet... the
question is if anyone is (still?) doing it ;)

which type of chatting? that like we do in the message posts or live chat with
the sysop or other users on other nodes of a multinode system with the
capability? FB has three different types of "chat" depending on how you look at
things... they have the "news feed" that we old-school guys remember as "wall
posts" (which i never really liked at all) where one posts their "status
updates"... they have the private messages type of chat which is akin to these
posts... then they have their immediate live chat (which i have turned off on
my profile)... since everyone is on the internet when using FB, all of these
are pretty much realtime services... depending on the other end of the
conversation, that is...
