Maybe things have changed since, but there was a time when special models were
sold in the States. I know for a fact that the low-end Mercedes-Benz models
were never sold there, which gave people in the States the impression the MB
was a "luxury car". And I had problems making Americans believe that an average
German worker often drove one - but of course not the US model, but the low-end
models sold here.

I once drove a MB 200D company car from Stuttgart to Duesseldorf, and was
surprised that the performance was comparable to that of a VW 1200 Beetle -
didn't think it would be that bad, but it was. Just too heavy for the small
motor in the car.

Some people like the ride. The hydraulic suspension makes it comfortable, but
it would make me nervous going arounhd a corner and having the car tipping over
as far as it does.
