The EC is an abberation of power. First of all the rule used to be that every
member country should have a Commissioner. That was when there were 12 members.
Now there's the double of that so they neded to invent work, hence increase the
operating cost.
 
Better would have been to have the net-contributors have a fixed commisioner
and, let's say 4-5 vacant seats rotating among the tit-suckers.
 
Then it became a struggle for power. For example, aggriculture is an important
Directorate with a large budget and large subsidies to spend (waste). Give
thatone to a Greek and guess what happens next ...
 
There's also fisheries ... give that to Spain and "holy smoke", in 5 years the
Atlantic Ocean will be fished empty.
 
The story goes on. Not enough countries want to contribute to the Union, but
they all want to benefit from it. I'd have no problem if there would be a
smaller real Union.
 
Alas, there is the geo-political world-balance which has also turned into an
economic-balance. If all those 'emerging democracies' in eastern Europe are not
allowed access to the EU, they are forced in another union with Russia. And
which is the worst of two ailments here?

Absolutely. Apart from that, it is hugely expensive.

The newsflash was 2-3 weeks old. From links in the civilian airline industry I
hear that there's also a problem with counterfeit parts there.

It has already happened that the EC received a vote of "no confidence" and the
whole Commission had to resign. That's the political system here.

As I do write for magazines and am bothered by 'intellectuial property' matters
all the time, I once asked such questions to the lawyers of the publisher.
 
The answer was that the writer always remains the intellectual owner of the
work and it cannot be shared or given away or sold ...
 
However, there are the distribution rights and reproduction rights. Here indeed
it is a contractual agreement which decides who does what and who gets what.
