A pop quiz on Barack Obama's first year

Did the president end all that bitter, partisan fighting?

Oprah Winfrey asked President Obama to grade his first year as president
and he gave himself a B . His friend and legendary California politician,
Willie Brown, gave the president an "incomplete."

Y'all can argue among yourselves on his grade.

1. After blaming eight years of President Bush's economic policies for all
of the woes of the world, President Obama did the following:

A. He rescinded the Bush tax cuts of 2001 and 2003.

B. He replaced Ben Bernanke as chairman of the Federal Reserve.

C. He refused to do another stimulus and bailout like Bush had tried in
2008.

D. None of the above.

2. After promising in his campaign to end "bitter, partisan fights,"
President Obama did the following:

A. He worked with Republican leaders to help write the $787 billion
economic stimulus.

B. He worked with Republican leaders to help write the cap-and-trade
legislation.

C. He worked with Republican leaders to help write the health reform
legislation.

D. He told Republican leaders in January: "I won, so I think on that one,
I trump you."

3. After promising to write health-care legislation live on C-Span, what
actually transpired?

A. The final Senate bill was written in secret by Senate Majority Leader
Harry Reid.

B. To secure passage, the 58 Democratic senators and two independents
hashed everything out behind closed doors - without staff at one time.

C. The administration committed to more than a billion dollars in earmarks
to secure the 60 votes needed to pass.

D. All of the above.

4. After claiming his administration did the greatest vetting of job
seekers in the history of the White House, how many nominees for Cabinet
positions wound up with tax problems?

A. Zero.

B. One.

C. Two.

D. At least three.

5. How many people crashed the Nov. 24 state dinner?

A. Zero.

B. One.

C. Two.

D. At least three.

6. Giving British Prime Minister Gordon Brown a boxed set of DVDs was
considered a diplomatic faux pas because:

A. It was a cheap gift.

B. The DVDs could not be played on British DVD players.

C. Brown is blind in one eye and has problems with the other.

D. All of the above.

7. According to Recovery.gov, selling nine pairs of boots to the
government under the $787 billion stimulus creates:

A. No jobs.

B. One job.

C. Two jobs.

D. Nine jobs.

8. Which war did the president fight hardest in 2009?

A. The Global War on Terrorism.

B. The Iraq War.

C. The War on Fox.

D. The Afghanistan War.

9. President Obama's smart diplomacy has worked to do which of the
following:

A. Bring Israelis and Palestinians together to promote peace.

B. Bring Iran to the negotiating table to end its pursuit of nuclear
weaponry.

C. Bring North Korea to the negotiating table to end its pursuit of
nuclear weaponry.

D. Get a college professor and a police officer to sit down for a beer.

10. In a nod to President Lincoln's Team of Rivals cabinet, President
Obama appointed Hillary Clinton as secretary of state. Mrs. Clinton has:

A. Addressed the United Nations.

B. Accompanied the president on every one of his foreign trips.

C. Been the most active secretary of state since Henry Kissinger.

D. Visited Congo.

The answers of course are all D - including No. 8. Hey, I do not find
fault with everything he accomplished this year.

Readers who answered each question correctly get an A. Those who did not
can pick between a B and an incomplete for their grade.
