No, the 'turning point' was the fact that German subs were sinking US
ships, c1918.

If we're without oil, just think how bad it will be in Holland with no
means of self support. You won't be able to import the tobacco from Africa
to make Dutch cigars for export.

Didn't anyone explain this simple shit to you? The intent is to use up the
world's oil supply first, then when there's none for the 'rest of the
world' we begin pumping our reserves.

No, they were filling with oil all the time, just not enough to make
it worthwhile to pump it out. As they fill with rainwater, the oil floats
to the top and makes it much easier to pump.

Because most of it is within the Exclusive Economic Zone (see: UN
Convention) of the US coast line. That which is in international waters is
free to anyone who wishes to drill for it.

I wouldn't blame them if they did, but that would mean that the Alaskan
citizens would no longer get their fare share of the oil exported from the
state, paid by the US government. If they choose to secede, they'd also
need some form of military protections to preserve their oil fields. And
not just from the US.

I'm glad you think so. That means the oil in reserve will remain so and
we'll use up the 'rest of the world's supply' and we'll save what we can
before tapping it.
