Most over here do retire on average between the ages of 55 and 70. Some
occupations in the public sector and military do have mandatory retirement
ages.

I encounter plenty of retiress whom have taken on some sort of part time job,
for no other reason that they were bored and just wanted some extra play money.
I see some of them come in wanting to buy computers.

There is an assumption on your part that a retirement income is sufficient for
some.

Those retirees I have met, seem to enjoy taking on more menial jobs, as they
like dealing with the public and dont have the stresses and responsibilities
their prior jobs held.

On the other hand, some take any job because they have to for economical
reasons or poor money management in the past.

If you are talking about getting injured on the job, yes, we have that here,
its called workmans compensation, most employers pay into a insurance fund
maintained by the state.

In 1996 while working for a Auto parts retailer, I was helping out at another
store, they had a backroom added onto the building and I was putting up the
shelving. A bundle of shelving uprights was propped up against a wall and while
jostling with another, I disturbed this bundle and it fell down on me. A inch
or two more and I would have been killed, but as it was, I suffered severe
scratches on my scalp and a huge gash on my forehead that peeled a 3 inch wide
flap of skin away. My emergency room treatment was paid for, I underwent 10
straight days of hyberbaric oxygen chamber treatment, which they did to assist
in healing the flap of skin that was sewn back down, mostly successful, but the
outer 1/4 inch of the flap did die. I could have opted for plastic surgury to
remove most of the scar tissue, but I opted out, I then received a settlement
offer which I used to buy a car.. :) My lost wages were also covered.
