Last week I was using one of the Vista machines - which are patched
and current up to the most recent M$ "update" - at the Emerson Library.
I was finished with IE and tried to close it.  It spawned two more instances
of itself, and did that every time I tried to close one.  I finally mamaged to
get the task manager to kill them off - all 20 or so of them by then.

Other than the pulling the plug out of the wall socket there's no way to shut
down/reboot those Vista machines.  You have to just walk away from them and
eventually after so much time idle they'll shut themselves down.
