Can you see the irony in that? What would he have done had there been a
warrant for your arrest from Belgium?

I got stopped by a Texas Ranger about two months ago. He said I was
speeding and even noticed the oversize wheels and tires, which would
change the speedometer to read slower than I was actually going. When he
mentioned them, I was ahead of him and told him that I had re-programmed
the vehicle's computer to compensate the difference in tire sizes. I also
mentioned that I had been at the drag races all day and I was tired and
was driving the interstate at 65mph (limit is 70) and thought I was doing
60 on the state highway, which is the limit there. He clocked me at 69mph.
Since I was so nice to him and explained myself, he just gave me a
warning.

When the national speed limit was 55mph, it was to save fuel. Secretly,
congress gave the states an incentive to enforce it by increasing the
fines, which they didn't have to share with the feds. It took a few years,
but people began to slow down. Those who didn't probably made up for those
who did, in extra fuel and fines. The speed limit on I-10 west of San
Antonio is 75mph these days. That costs a lot in extra fuel used and some
people get pulled over because they're going a lot faster than that. Which
is hard to do when you're in the middle of nowhere, aka west Texas.
