Never had such problems. Modern lithium polymer batteries hold a charge for a
long time.

RB>> but not be bothered by calls

That's naturally another matter, but assumes you are out of the house fairly
frequently and can't be reached otherwise. Could be useful on your trips,
though: I carry a cell phone when I travel too, but only switch it on in the
evening in case anyone needs to call or send an SMS. Don't want incoming calls
when I'm driving.

DS>>>> and only costs me about $95 per year.

MV>>> Mine costs me less than EUR 20 a year.

RB>> That much?

MV> Note the "less than". It is a rough estimate, I do not keep a record.
MV> It may actually be less then 10.

RB>> I repeat myself, but it seems you guys are paying top prices for
RB>> this,

Then you go on to include amortization and the expense of electricity for
charging... this wasn't what we were talking about: I wasn't, and I doubt Dale
was. The subject was phone rates.

If you start to include _all_ the costs, you might as well include your own
time for using the phone, charging it and the like, at a certain amount per
hour or minute. But that really would be exaggerating, and would be beside the
point for most people.

As for battery replacements, I am somewhat perplex at your problems... the only
battery that ever went bad on me (didn't hold a charge) was on a really old
Motorola T-191. Never had battery problems on anything else. But I also don't
keep the things switched on all the time, maybe that's the difference.

MV> Lats year I bought a Nokia 6150 for EUR 50.

Are you sure you mean a 6150? That's a very old model (released in 1998), and
certainly isn't worth EUR 50 either now or last year.

I just bought a Sony Ericsson K800i (released 2006) camera cellphone, just for
fun, also for EUR 50 (including shipping), and the price appears to be fairly
normal when I check the achieved prices on Ebay (but that's not where I bought
it).

MV> My first cell phone, a Sony CMD-2000 is still in working order. But I
MV> had to replace the speaker and the battery. Now that battery is shot
MV> again and no longer available. My second cell phone, a Siemens M35
MV> also needed a battery replacement twice.

Probably a new phone wouldn't cost much more than the battery. I wonder that
you bother with such old stuff, but if you want a couple more to play with,
just let me know.

RB>> assuming you only use the phone for the same reason I do, i.e. for
RB>> emergencies and the occasional (short) call from some outdoor
RB>> location.

MV> I rarely use it for outgoing calls.

Same here. That's why a EUR 5 credit on the SIM lasts me a long time.

Cheers, Bob
