 Not especially large. The city itself has about 80,000 people or so, and the
entire area that the cable company covers  has about 250,000 people. 

The city itself is very suburban. Most people live in houses or duplexes,  with
a few scattered apartment buildings here and there.

 Over here it's quite rare to find a place that's not covered by some Cable
provider.  you have to live in very, very rural areas.  I have a cottage about
2 hours drive away from here that's really in the middle of nowhere, and cable
was recently run to the area about 5 years ago. (I don't spend enough time up
there to warrant paying for it though!)

Satellite Internet is an option, but it's really rare, quite expensive, and a
poor choice for anything other than basic web surfing.
