Pseudonyms and pen names have been used by authors since forever.
For example, Samuel Clemens wrote under his own name of Samuel Clemens
when writing as a journalist, and as Mark Twain when writing pieces
of humor/satire/fiction.  Stepehn King is a pseudonym, his real name
being a name that nobody remembers.  My great great grandfather wrote
the original Uncle Remus (Peter Cottontail) stories, all in Cajun
French, with himself as Uncle Remus.

In my opinion the use of a handle/alias/pseudonym should be
encouraged rather than discouraged, as it is a protection.  As
such, that protection should be extended to all, and not limited
to sysops and/or moderators.

Sysops know who is using their system.  Individuals have to log in
using their real name if they want access.  From there, setting up
a handle/alias/pseudonym should present no problems for either
sysops, moderators, or fidonet admninistrators.  IOW it would be
an option for individuals.  They could continue using their real
name, they could choose to use an alias/handle/pseudonym, or even
both.
