Yes, and peacefully.  NOT as a powerhouse or world power.

The reason they were able to do that is as you listed below, they were already
doing it to help the war effort in Europe, but, that was WW2.  Had the Japanese
NOT bombed Pearl, you would never have entered the war.

So what does that have to do with the US liberating everything.  The fact that
some Americans wanted to join the effort does not automatically translate into
that/those squadrons becoming US.  I am quite aware of that BTW, many Americans
also joined the Canadian Army to fight.

No doubt,but a lot of European design, especially British designs were used.
