Ehr ... unless they had British markings, I think that is an incorrect
statement. The BoB was over before the US actively joined the war effort.

It's a small museum in Nanton, Alberta. Maybe an hour or two south of Calgary.
There's a whole story to it, but they have a Lancaster there which at some
point was derilict but they are restoring it to the point that they got 2
engines working. What a roar. I visited it some years ago and for the people
passing there it is really worth your while. However, who goes to Nanton?
 
The museum with several aircraft under restoration is pretty interesting,
they've got a special presentation there on the real story behind "The Great
Escape" and the destruction of Tirpitz.
 
Funny, it's actually the only thing really going on there and the whole town
participates.

The people I know claim that Britain exclusively provided for itself as far as
oil goes from the Sherwood wells.
 
Those sources run into the US DoD.

95 is now the standard minimum rating here ... ethanol added I believe.

There was something else that I read about it and which also makes sense. Due
to the flying time involved an ME109 has barely 10 minutes over the target area
and then had to return or risk fuel starvation. While the RAF had all the time
they needed ... they could chase the Germans to close to the Belgian and Dutch
coast without the Germans having the fuel to engage.
