That was in the contract that Boeing had with the union, but if you opted
out of the union, you didn't have to pay their dues.

RW>> Which was a good thing and a bad thing. It was good because it woke

JD> I think unions were good in their day, and probably are good as a

They served to make government pass legislation to protect the worker's
rights...

JD> UAW is a good example. Hoffa's old union is, or at least was,
 JD> another example.

The union probably had a hand in making him disappear...

RW>> That's a good thing. Else, there is the possibility that a union

JD> I think there would likely be exceptions <G> I'm just waiting to see

OTH, the civilian workers may be comprised of better paid former military
trained workers.

RW>> An attempt to divest themselves of a union contract. 8^)

 JD> Indeed

RW>> I worked in a non-union shop where the machinists tried to form a

RW>> he'd pick everything up and move it from Cal to Nevada. The only way
RW>> they could stay employed was to move with the company. The part of
RW>> Nevada he had in mind was an area where they had winter just north
RW>> of Reno, which proved to be the straw that broke the union-voter's
 RW>> backs.

JD> Walmart did the same thing in Quebec. The union got voted in, and
JD> they closed up the store.

That's what I would have done had I been a member of Walmart management.
Here we are having built a big store that employs your citizens at a
decent living wage and they want to unionize and attempt to get a foot
into our operation...not gonna happen.

RW>> Possibly picked up and moved to western CA?

JD> No, to Toronto, and possibly to the Philipines after that.

Figures.

RW>> Good for her. I did that too, when I had a chance to speak out
 RW>> against the unions.

JD> Yeah, they did a double take when she told them that all they had
JD> now, would be gone, and they would have to negotiate for every little
 JD> benefit, and pay.

And be out of work with no or a token of pay when they decide that what
the union has, isn't enough. They always want more.

"It is the fault of our science that it wants to explain all, and
if it explain not, then it says there is nothing to explain."
     Bram Stoker (1847-1912)

Thus, we have "Climate Change Science" - which isn't capable of
 explaining anything.
