Glad to hear that... congrats! I quit cold turkey 20+ years ago and I burned 3
packs/day

The diet stuff is probably worse.  There is nothing wrong with sugar as long as
it is done in moderation and with thought.  As I said, I gave up on soda pop as
a regular refreshment other than places you go where they don't have anything
but.  It's rare, but there are still some places.  Give me water any day.

I don't think they should be mother/father either but we're dealing with a
complex issue. Since 2002, when Bloomburg took office, adult obesity rose 25%.
Now these figures come from the NY Post which is a highly conservative newpaper
so I wouldn't hear that it was a liberal thing. Since the ban of soda in
schools, consumption has dropped and so has the obesity ratio among school aged
children. The same thing happened with banning tobacco use (smoking) in bars
and restaurants along with boosting taxes.  You've found out that smoking is
indeed bad for your health and quit.  Now I know there are exceptions to the
rules as some people smoke into their 90's and they've never had an issue, but
as I said, that is an exception and some will even go as far as saying tobacco
has no effect.  The campaign of fast food restaurants to draw in the young has
been a great success and normally they target lower income families. I'm not
saying they don't target all kids, but who do you think make up more of the
charity care cases when it comes to ER visits for anything that has to do with
obesity. There are 8 million people in NYC. It's a highly concentrated area
population wise and as such, hospitals are swamped to the point they've had to
close their doors due to excessive red numbers.  The hospital I was born in
which was the standard bearer for the Chelsea area of Manhatten closed for just
that reason. Personal responsibility is a must, I agree, but when a high
percentage of the population doesn't see it that way then steps must be taken. 
What's the difference if it's sold in a 16oz cup or a 32oz?  Everyone goes back
for 2nd's anyway.
