Ärende: it was so cold - I saw a squirrel with hot shots holding his nuts!
==========================================================================
Greetings Joe!

JD>>> So where does it state that it was the coldest winter in many
 JD>>> years?

RW>> The two national weather stations on TV have decided this to be true
RW>> and report it as such.

JD> I see. Those are official reports by the National Weather Service?

Of course. But better yet, straight from the horses mouth comes the facts;

Headline: Winnipeg has coldest winter in 64 years

WINNIPEG Ä Winter isn't over yet, but this one is shaping up as Winnipeg's
coldest in 64 years.

"Environment Canada says December's extreme cold temperatures, combined
with January's 12 days of below -30 C temperatures, have created an
unprecedented low average.

If we take the two months and combine them, we find it is the coldest
December/January since 1949/1950," said Dale Marciski, a meteorologist for
Environment Canada."

JD>>> The same could be said for those in most southern states. Get a
JD>>> 1/4 inch of snow, and they shut down the interstate.

RW>> That's because there is no snow removal equipment, since it is
RW>> unusual to see snow in most sutheren states. You can see how that
RW>> works by keeping an eye on Atlanta, GA news.

JD> You dont need snow removal equipment for 1/4 inch of snow. One year
JD> I was in Florida around Christmas time. They close I-95 because it
JD> had a light dusting of snow, that lasted about 1/2 hours at most.

You do if the temp remains below freezing. Florida is a whole different
ball game where the coldest part of the day is before sunrise, but when
the sun eventually does shine, the sea breezes and the sun bring the temps
above freezing. Here in Texas the cold front brings cold air that sticks
around for a while, even if the sun does shine.

RW>> More BS. The weather in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois comes out
RW>> of Canada. I kept an eye on their weather this winter and it was
RW>> colder than it has been in years, and it stayed that way for a very
RW>> long time. I texted a msg to my sister in Illinois, telling her how
RW>> nice and warm it was in Amarillo in the Texas panhandle. It was
RW>> always 30-50F warmer, even when it dipped down to 24F there.

JD> No BS. I live here.

So does Andrew Penner...his writing doesn't sound like the BS you're
trying to convince me with.

JD> The places you mention, are NOT in Canada, and that was what we
JD> were talkig about. The Coldest winter in Canada in a long time. Not
 JD> true.

Penner mixes his satire about golf with the weather in Canada and it must
be true, because he lives there.

/Quote

"But back to this winter: In case you missed it or were drunk for the past
six months (there are worse ways to deal with it), it was somewhat cold up
here. In Saskatchewan, for example, they recorded wind-chills of -62
degrees Celsius (-80F). In Winnipeg, most people either froze solid or had
their pipes freeze solid. In Ontario, Niagara Falls became a freaky -
looking ice sculpture that resembled a white version of Bob Marley's hair.

And, for whatever reason, Toronto's mayor's frontal brain lobe also froze.

When you add it all up, it was a tough winter that took a serious toll.

How, exactly, this plays out in the golf industry remains to be seen. Will
golfers in Canada thaw out in time to enjoy the wink-and-you'll-miss-it
golf season? Will the courses even thaw out at all? It's still unclear at
this time.

What is clear is that all of us, just when we think our 36 seconds of
freedom are upon us, will have to dig out of a massive spring snow storm .
. . or five. Then come the bugs and, if you live in Alberta or Manitoba,
the floods.

All of which begs the question, why even bother? The answer, I'm guessing,
is because it's golf. And golf, in its sick and twisted little way, is
fun.

Kinda like a Rob Ford press conference."

Andrew Penner is a golf professional, writer, and photographer based in
Calgary, Alberta.

RW>> This winter was colder than usual.

 JD> In some places.

Especially in Canada...

    Have a day!
