The NRA has it all wrong -
Guns don't kill people.
People kill people - WITH GUNS!

How convenient the NRA leaves out those
two very important words - WITH GUNS!

How successful do you think James Earl Ray would
have been had he not been able to get his hands on
a sniper's rifle?  How successful do you think
Sirhan Sirhan would have been had he not been able
to get his hands on a gun?  How successful do you
think Lee Harvey Oswald would have been had he
not been able to get his commie-coated fingers
on the trigger of a sniper's rifle?

Or "Squeaky" Fromme?  Or John Hinckley?  Or so
many others?

Lee Harvey Oswald was a bad man.
There have been many bad men like
them throughout history, and I am
sure there will be many more bad
men (and women) of similar ilk in
the future.

The goal of every sniper is to KILL A HUMAN BEING(S)!
There is nothing good about killing human beings, whether
singular or plural.

Assassins have been known to use other weapons,
such as swords.  Does that make their act of KILLING
any more good than if they had used a gun?

If children could not get hold of guns, children
would not be killing children with guns at school!

Oh sure, children would still get in fights.  But
with fisticuffs, or at most with small knives.  And
possibly forks, depending on time of day.

But really, this easy access to guns in our society
is a sickness that must be cured.  For our own good.
And the only way to do so is to remove that access.
I'll give you three guesses on how best to do just
that.

Japan got rid of the gun.  The only modern country
ever to do so.  But that did not stop the killing.
Why not?  Because invaders from other lands used
guns against them, while the Shogun and his entourage
continued to chop off heads as their main course of
defense.

Once the white colonial powers agreed to allow Japan
to rule itself again, the Emperor chose to allow his
loyal subjects to again own and train with guns.  We
all know the outcome of that mad experiment ...

Tell that to John F. Kennedy.
Tell that to Robert F. Kennedy.
Tell that to John Lennon.
Tell that to Ronald Reagan.
Tell that to John Paul II.
Tell that to all those other innocents
who were killed/maimed/injured by madmen
or madwomen armed with a gun.

Chris Kyle was US Navy, whose detail was to serve and protect
his unit - and by extension his country.  He served with honor,
and then left the military for civilian life.  He did not talk
about what he did, or the kills he made.  He did not gloat or
thump his chest saying what a macho guy he was to have offed
so many Iraqis and others.  He did his job, went home, and
tried to live a normal life with his wife in Texas.

Was Chris Kyle a hero?  Not in my book.  He was a mercenery
(for hire) who did his job, and did it well.  And yes, in service
to this country.  But no hero.

As for Clint Eastwood, his film ("American Sniper") is pure
American jingoism.  Not even a good biopic, much less a movie.
Does the film deserve any Oscar nominations?  More like Rotten
Tomatoes.

But hey.  If you like movies that exemplify the glorification
of war, as shown through American eyes only, this film is for you!
