There is also t1 and gestational type, not just t2.
But specific to t2 the main cause is as you say/suggest.

It is refined sugar that is the main culprit, which is why it

Read the labels on the box?  Who the hell does that?  We do not
live in the 70s any more, and Jimmy Carter is no longer prez ...

There are also centenarians who are smokers.  Not many, but
there are some.  What that is that supposed to mean?  I have
no idea.  Maybe some people are born lucky?  Or born stupid?
