Ärende: Routing 200MB of echomail via an unsuspecting system
============================================================
29 Jul 15 13:56, you wrote to Matt Bedynek:

binkd doesn't care... fmail and other tossers do not because they never had the
capability which was provided by other tools...

MB>> As I said, if this is so important to you then conduct your own test.

MV> The burden of proof is on those who make the claims. Their claim was

no... the original statement by bill mcgarrity was very simple...

  FR: Bill McGarrity
  TO: Lee Lofaso
  RE: New Stuff
  MSGID: 18318.2fidonews@1:266/404 1a1182a3
"It is taboo to route echomail through a node without previous
permission and as such could this be the issue they had in mind?"

which was followed a few days later by a reply from bill to david drummond
where bill said...

  FR: Bill McGarrity
  TO: David Drummond
  RE: New Stuff
  MSGID: 18340.2fidonews@1:266/404 1a13ea9d
"Speaking from personal experiance due to a screw-up in my routing
file when I first got back some pkt's were routed through the NC
of the final recipient. Saying something can never happen is
   rather shortsighted."

some time later, bill asked lee lofaso

  FR: Bill Mcgarrity
  TO: Lee Lofaso
  RE: Both Are Covered
  MSGID: 18376.2fidonews@1:266/404 1a1697e2
"but tell me something... if I'm sending 200 megs of files through
your system daily without asking... would that be grounds or are
   you getting easily annoyed?"

all the above stem from the the P4 echomail discussions and their topic
drifting since July 1, 2015...

/then/ on July 23rd, bill and björn felten had the following exchange...

  FR: Bill McGarrity
  TO: Björn Felten
  RE: Both Are Covered
  MSGID: 18380.2fidonews@1:266/404 1a16a661
"BF> Anyhow, do you care to elaborate that transmission thingy of yours?

If someone routed say 200 megs of echomail through you without your
permission?"

in other words, bill was asking björn to clarify what "transmission thingy" he
was talking about... /that's/ where that comment about "200 megs of echomail"
came from... previous to that, it was only "200 megs of files"... then the
arguments about routing echomail being possible or not started with you, david
and björn being at least the first three to claim it wasn't possible with
others, myself included, stepping in to say that it was possible and had been
done many times in the past... you and several others jumped on the "200 megs
of routed echomail" comment and distorted it beyond the simple question of "is
routing echomail possible"... the answer to that is emphatically "yes!"...
period...

MV> Pointing to stone age software where this can happen is pointless if
MV> that software is no longer in use today.

apparently it is in use today... especially on retro systems that are being
brought back online... then there's the fact that bill's situation happened
with software that is actively supported and in development today... just
because you haven't seen something doesn't mean that it hasn't and cannot
happen... you can call it an "outlandish scenario" all you want but it doesn't
take away from the fact that is can and does happen at times...
