You forgot you wrote this too me in fido-sysop comrade..

Gladly.

On day-x of year-y Steven Leeman registered the domains fidonet.be and
fido.be.

The registrar was a company in Leuven [Belgium] headed by another
Fidonet-sysop but whose name I forgot.

That registrar, instead of using a standard place-holder page, linked
both pages to commercial sites where computer hard- and software was
sold.

Upon noticing that commercial usage was intended of fidonet, Steven
was
in no uncertain terms told that he had the option between abandoning
this commercial venture or be scrapped from the nodelist [I do not
need
an NC to remove someone, ERRFLAGS will take care of that].

Steven cried murder, went hugging Janis and got friendly with a number
of Z1 people. I was bombarded by the howling pack of Z1 wolves, which
today mainly still makes up Janis' cheering section, minus Roy
although
he'll be back any day now.

It didn't impress me then, it doesn't impress me now.

Quite shortly before the deadline, Steven was shown a dummy entry with
his number removed. He offered the explanation that the registrar had
put that page there without his OK. In order to end the incident I
accepted that explanation as the index.htm page in the meantime was
neutral. That does not mean I believe the story, I think there was
commercial interest by that registrar and Steven was a patsy.

Steven has never complained and we entertain rather friendly
relations.

Around that same time, there was a commercial venture in R50 which I
also killed, there had been something similar in R33 Italy, I was
offered money for turning a blind eye to commercial ventures plus I
was
wined and dined by R29 sysops Tony Vandenbogaert and Martin Whelou [a
Swede living here] in order to go commercial.

The great Ron Dwight even approached me with a proposal re: his
Voyager-software. [His predecessor Felix Kasza also tried to make
money
out of Fidonet]

Needless to say, none of these commercial ventures ever meant
anything.
Guess why?
