    Nevertheless, I think that the Echolist
    is a good and useful thing, but only as
    accurate as the moderators make it for
    their echos.

Moderators such as Ross Cassell, the elisted moderator of Fidonews?
Moderators such as Roger Nelson, the elisted moderator of FN_SYSOP?

We all know the so-called "echolist" is not accurate.  We all know
that no private echolist has any official status in fidonet.  We all
know the so-called gatekeeper of the echolist is window dressing,
and nothing more.

Janis Kracht, as self-appointed dictator of Z1, has given her
full blessing to her lapdog, Ross Cassell, to do as he likes to
maintain the so-called "Echolist" as he sees fit.  Even though
she has appointed her very own "Echolist Keeper" to do the job.
I guess some leashes just aren't short enough - especially
when it comes to puppies.

Origin means where an echo originates from.  As determined by
the owner of the echo, not by Ross Cassell or any other entity.

Distribution means where an echo can and should be distributed
- in due accordance to the owner of the echo's wishes.

The moderator is determined by the owner of the echo, not by
any private elist/echolist.

In the case of the Fidonews echo, the owner is the Fidonet
community.  And it is the Fidonet community that hired the
current editor/moderator of the Fidonews - Björn Felten -
through the previous editor/moderator Frank Vest.

In the case of the FN_SYSOP echo, the owner is the Fidonet
sysops.  And it is Fidonet sysops who freely elected the
current toastmaster/moderator of the FN_SYSOP echo - Björn
Felten - under rules of play written and accepted by those
very same sysops.

Any sysop (or non-sysop) whose sole claim of being moderator
of an echo is the holy echolist is a fraud.  As such, both the
echolist and its moderator should be ignored by all.  Not just
by sysops, but by non-sysops as well.

Anybody who worships an echolist is an idiot.

It seems zone 1 has lots of idiots.

Fortunately for Fidonet, the numbers of idiots is very few,
considering the numbers of sysops and non-sysops outside of
zone 1.

Note - this is not a personal attack on Dale Shipp.
He did NOT say the echolist is accurate.  Therefore,
he did NOT say it is a useful tool.  Oh, he did say
it *can* be a useful tool.  And indeed it can be.
But will never be, in the sense that Dale is saying
or suggesting, given human nature.

Freedom is not the natural state of man.
Never has been.  Never will be.
To think otherwise is nothing but a pipe dream.

But useful for who?  The one who contols it, of course.
There will always be those who seek to exert power over
others.  Always.  And sometimes, most likely most of the
time, those who seek such power get it.  Until somebody,
or something, stops them from continuing their madness.

The echolist, such as it is, is beyond the control of
owners and moderators.  As such, Dale's logic is flawed.

Of course, Dale is talking about sysops in zone 1, the
vast majority of whom have yet to learn what real freedom
is all about.  So please do not be too harsh on him or his
fellow sysops.  Better to welcome them all with open arms
to the New World Order of the FidoWeb.
