Ärende: Are you still high and dry???
=====================================
Hello Allen,

LL>> Alligators are wonderful creatures, and should be protected,
LL>> along with the habitats they live in. We are not doing them
LL>> any favors, or us, by destroying them or the lands they live
 LL>> in.

AP> I have eaten alligator meat and it is quite tasty though.

When fresh, and if cooked properly, can be good. But wait too
long before cooking and then it tastes too - reptilian. Can
taste like chicken, or pork, or steak, depending on how it is
prepared and cooked. But only if it is fresh. Otherwise, it
is just plain yucky.

AP> if they must be hunted then we must not waste them. I do know that some
AP> population control must be maintained.

Alligators will take care of their own, thankyouverymuch.
However, they can be hunted to extinction. And eggs are easy
to poach. I am not against hunting, or trapping. But wildlife
should be managed, otherwise that resource will not be renewable.
And that would mean no more hunting or trapping for our posterity.
Unless we want to start hunting and trapping each other.

LL>> Look at the number of people in Louisiana who have been left
LL>> without a home due to the recent floods. Over 40,000 people
LL>> being left homeless. And more to join them. Many had built
LL>> houses in swampland, in areas prone to flooding, not having
LL>> flood insurance because their homes were not designated as
LL>> being located in a flood zone. Who is going to pay for it?

AP> Horrifying and I get this... just like we have homes that are on the wrong
AP> side of our flood wall when the mighty Ohio River floods. After the
home's
AP> historic repair value reaches 150% of it's value the city mandates that
the
AP> insurance treat it as a total loss and the owner has to move.

Louisiana had a great flood in 1927. Some historians claim this
event is what caused the Great Depression. There is some merit in
that claim, as every major natural disaster has meant a recession
or depression to come afterwards. Do you think it was an accident
or coincidence that the Great Recession occurred not long after
the massive destruction caused by Katrina?

After Sandy destroyed the East Coast, President Obama knew what
to do. Spend massive amounts of federal funds to help those in
need. Even NJ Governor Chris Christie agreed, and went along
with it, knowing what the alternative was.

AP> Sadly a lot of these homes are pre-civil war homes... the historic value
is
AP> destroyed... all because the either the city chose not to include them in
 AP> the
AP> confines of the floodwall... or the property owner at the time objected to
AP> having their river view blocked by a big earthen damn wall.

You cannot stop progress. But you can make it too expensive to
continue. Stall, stall, stall for as long as possible. And then
tell the politicians they can't do what they want to do because
there is not enough money in the whole wide world for them to do
it.

Fortunately for all of us, FDR chose not to listen to those folks,
and did it anyway, putting millions upon millions of Americans back
to work again. Gotta spend money to make money. Preferably other
people's money. That was the key to our success. Spend our way
out of the Great Depression.

AP> In 1937 Louisville flooded to the point where our city was destroyed.

FDR had experience, knowing what to do. And what not to do.
His predecessor had chosen to do nothing after the flood in 1927,
which led to the Great Depression. FDR was not going to make
the same mistake.

AP> Seems that all manner of cities have had their disasters it's all about
how
AP> they rise from the ruin.

You have to fund it in order to fix it. Talking about it is not
going to do it. Makes you sound like Donald Trump. You think
anybody believes anything he says? The man is so full of it his
eyes have turned a permanent shade of brown that most people find
truly disgusting.

LL>> Somebody has to provide food and shelter for these people.
LL>> Somebody has to offer employment for these people, as their
LL>> places of employment have also been affected. Somebody is
LL>> going to have to pay for oh the list is endless.

AP> I guess somebody paid for us in 1937...

We did. Thanks to FDR. And we are so fortunate as a result.
His predecessor chose to do nothing after the Louisiana flood
of 1927. And as a result, all Americans suffered. OTOH, we
did get Huey P. Long. And FDR ...

AP> and it can happen to anyone...

Climate change affects of all, either directly or indirectly.

AP> however it's happeneing far too often.

And what are we going to do to stop it from happening? We want
to maintain our standard of living, to drive our fast cars, enjoy
our fine wines ...

AP> This Rain storm was a 1000 year rain...

The events that are occuring now have happened before, roughly
about 500-600 years ago in this part of the world. How long they
will continue is anybody's guess. However, as global temperatures
continue to rise, these events are likely to occur on a much more
frequent basis.

AP> more evidence our earth is suffering.

And what is the main cause? Mankind's activities.

LL>> This is not Katrina. This is not Sandy. This is Katrina
LL>> and Sandy and a few other disasters all rolled into one.

LL>> George W. Bush lost a city (New Orleans).
LL>> Barack Obama lost a state (Louisiana).
LL>> Our next president might lose an entire country.
LL>> Is that a scary thought, or what?

AP> Actually Mississippi didn't fare well either so it's more like a state and
a
 AP> half.

Only a small part of Mississippi was affected. Mostly cow pasture.

AP> If we lose the country the US as we know it is gone... it will never rise
 AP> from the ruins again.

Where you gonna go? Canadians won't welcome us, Mexicans would
probably shoot us ...
