  Venus, even with its thick cloud layers, absorbs about 41% of the sun's
energy that reaches it. The earth absorbs about 61%.  The reason Venus is 755K
and the Earth is under 300K is heavily influenced by the amount of CO2 in the
air. If Venus had a similar atmosphere to ours, calulations would put the
surface temperature at 300-345K.

Also, people far smarter than I am have said that Venus is no more geologically
active than The Earth, so internal planetary temperatures have very little
bearing on this.  If the sun were to disappear tomorrow, we would all freeze
and die within a couple days.
