Concur on both, Nick, and I thought I had carefully prefaced my
statement with "looking for a full-featured BBS package" in either that
post or a previous one.  I deeply appreciate the great work you continue
to do on DB.  If it weren't for the BBS-like functions that bring
outside users to my systems here, I might also be participating in
Fidonet that way.  Perhaps others' experience is different, but by far
most of the interest and questions I receive are users curious about
hosting their own "Legend of the Red Dragon" or Tradewars games.

My statements were intended to be pro-Fidonet, as I think that's where
we're losing ground today.  More on topic, I also think it's an area
where FTSC can have a direct role in providing rudder by tapping current
and even outside talent pools to embrace new transports and technologies
and forge new ways forward.  Yes, Fidonet(tm) itself may be a product,
but that product needs the means to reach a new base of users.  DB is
one such transport, of course.  SBBS is another.

The Facebook, MySpace and blogger crowds are tough to get and keep
interested.  They're looking for a "SETUP.EXE" that prompts with a few
questions and rewards them with a capability in return.  Synchronet
comes as close as I've seen in succeeding in that, but there may be
other actively supported Windows packages out there of which I'm not
aware.  Again, I'm not a shill for Synchronet.  I run it here on a
secondary system, and I like it.  That's about all.
