And I am happy to have fido.vlist.eu in the system name field. The local name
on the LAN is fido, my domain is vlist.eu so the  globally inique host name of
my system is fido.vlist.eu. Indeed what is wrong with that?

Yes. It should either contain a dialable phone number or -Unpublished-. Why?
Because classic POTS/ISDN mailers expect that. There is no telling what will
happen if they see something else.

I still have mixed feelings about the DNS distibuted list. As you can see I
have added an IRD flag for net 280, but I get ni feedback if anyoneis actually
using that method.

I can tell you how Irex handles the INA flag: it doesn't. It just ignores it.

What's in a name?

To put up a barrier for things that look simple at first gance but that are
very hard to make it actually work.

Hmmm, maybe we can learn from history after all...

Well, the Soviet Union does not exist any more. But Moscow is still there. The
Kremlin is still there and the water in the Wolga river still flows. Same for
the capitals of the other states that once were part of the Soviet Union, They
are all still there, they do not look all that different from 20 years ago and
people still live there, work there, have children and do what people do.

What has ended is an administrative union. The demarcation lines only exist on
a map. You can not se them when looking at the earth with a telescope from
outer space.
