Human readability was the greater goal as well as finding a format that is
currently in wide use.  The RFC 2822 format meets these requirements and
indroduction as a kludge breaks nothing.  As for parsability it wasn't never
considered and I doubt it is needed given all the various machine readable time
and date related data currently deployed in ftn headers.  My strategy is/was to
send all that to the bit bucket which saves everyone much grief.  The only
fields that currently survive are the obsoleted time/date, To, From and
subject.  So for display purposes (human readabilty) then "18 Apr 12  10:26:00"
isn't nearly as informative as "Wed Apr 18 10:26:00 2012 +0400" is.

However you were the one who originally complained about the BBS's output and I
see no meaningful difference between your messages and it's.  I simply offered
an alternative that doesn't break anything and that more or less follows my
machine's output that I cut and pasted in a reply here to you that you
initially liked which takes the form of "Wed Apr 18 14:07:49 UTC 2012".  Looks
good to me but I think the numeric tz might be best all things considered and
requires no lookup tables or database for conversion purposes.  If the kludge
exists I'd be inclined to substitute the current ftn one with the kludge for
display purposes else continue to do nothing about it and continue ignoring
this type of data.  Either way things will carry on.

That is my story and I am sticking to it.
