Is that *really* a MS issue?  Seems to me I've encountered many email clients,
none of which have anything to do with MS.

Or have a xml/html program to tack that crap ... errrrr stuff ... on for needy
clients and leave well enough alone.  :-)

Speaking for myself I still think stripping it all down is the way to go and
that way anything is possible afterwards.  

Standards should be standards and have absolutely nothing to do with software
whether it be free or commercial.  At present there has been some leakage into
the current FTS standards and I advocate their removal if for no other reason
is much of that is abandonware and has nothing to do with compatibility,
backwards or otherwise.  This way if sysops choose to use xml based software
that is their business as long as it can produce acceptable raw standardized
packages so that other sysops can deal with them using whatever it it they wish
to use.  I believe that will effectively promote the hobby back into what is
claimed to be a hobby network.
