A Matter of Life & Death

 I know many of you have young children, friends with young children,
 young grandchildren or work with young children. If this email can
 save the life of just one child from this accidental death, it is
 worth my effort of sending this out to you.

Hi guys, thought I send you this email to warn you about that popular
lychees jelly that we asians are starting to add to our weekly grocery
list.

I am talking about that little white thick and slightly sticky jelly
that has a nata de coco in the middle. Everyone knows I guess that I 
work in a hospital, it's really sad and scary to see cases like this.

This beautiful nine year old filipina is now lying in the hospital bed
comatose, living but no brain activity. Her body starting to get stiff
for not being able to move and no brain functions. This was caused by 
eating the lichees jelly and accidentally swallowing it whole, since 
this jelly is really thick, slips easily in your tongue once that little
cup is opened, and it doesn't break pieces unless you bite it, it would 
really be hard to do anything once you choke on it, plus the fact that 
the nata de coco adds weight and since it is also a whole piece by 
itself it also contributes to the obstruction.

Kids have smaller airways than us so we better watch what we are giving
them. Even a small peanut could choke them. The victims dad tried
heimlich maneuver but it didn't came up, the poor girl dropped unconscious
and pulseless, which causes her brain not to get the supply of oxygen that
it needs, thus results the brain damage. In the hospital they found the
whole jelly in her lungs still intact somewhat got stuck in there 'coz per
daddy's statement.......some stems in her lungs were holding onto it,
which totally obstructed her breathing.

Most of the time people who had incident like this would remain like
that but since she is still young and still developing, let's hope and pray
that this talented and beautiful girl recovers and regain the life that was
stolen from her.

The parents found out later that before their daughters incident another
person died from the same reason....eating and accidentally swallowing
the lichees jelly........

And a week before the mom bought the jelly from an asian store, a
Chinese co-worker passed around a newspaper article about people dying in 
China because of that jelly. The mom didn't caught it, maybe she was too
busy with work at that time and didn't have time to listen or read that
paper which is understandable because sometimes we don't really believe
things are possible unless we see an incident like this.

Just to let you all know that the Main goal for doing the CPR is to keep
the victims brain oxygenated to avoid brain damage. It won't hurt to
learn the basic  resuscitation in fact it will help so much especially if
you have kids.
