CHRYSLER & MERCEDES BENZ

I worry about the merger of Chrysler and Mercedes Benz.  It's as if a
beautiful German model had a baby who looked like Lee Iacocca.

The merger will enable Mercedes to build its cars much cheaper in the
United States.  To the Germans we are Guatemala.

There are no more foreign cars.  A Mercedes is as American as Volkswagen
and apple strudel.

BONN:  The German maker of Mercedes Benz and the US Chrysler Corporation
have announced their intention to merge.  Car buffs instantly began to
speculate on what new products Chry-Benz would produce.

"Since Chrysler owns the mini-van market, it would not be unreasonable
for the new company to come out with a $92,000 Mercedes Mini-Van with a
teak interior that can exceed 150 mph," observed Heinrich Gutenberger,
with MachNach Magazine.

"The venerable Jeep Wagoneer is likely to emerge as the ultimate sports
utility vehicle, with stained glass windows," Gutenberger added.  "It
will be renamed The Stubenburban."

companies, Daimler-Benz is rolling out a prototype that will allow
drivers to access the Internet in their cars.  Engineers at a
Daimler-Benz research center in Silicon Valley are expected Wednesday to
unveil a Mercedes E420 equipped to give both driver and passenger the
ability to get on the World Wide Web, the New York Times reported Tuesday.

$45,000+ SPORTS CAR SQUIRRELED TO A STOP

London, England -- A hoarding squirrel disabled a $45,000+ sports car by
hiding nuts in the air filter.

Pola Brown was irritated when she found that her new convertible
Mercedes SLK 230, capable of 140mph, managed just 30mph and could barely
chug up hills.

When the car finally spluttered to a halt as Mrs Brown drove up a steep
hill near her home in Ringwood, Hants, she contacted the garage from
which she bought the car and Chris, Lonnen, general manager of Sea View
cars in Poole, Dorset, got his mechanics to examine the vehicle.

They found that the air filter was blocked by 5lb of nuts, and so they
made a small, squirrel-proof grille across the air intake to keep the
animal out.

She said:  "When Chris told me what the mechanics had found the penny
dropped.  I always put out peanuts for the birds in our garden.  They
seemed to be disappearing as soon as I'd scattered them.  I thought it
was a bit strange.  We had a squirrel visiting our garden but it didn't
register that it was hiding the nuts in my car."
