Mama's Helper

Little Susan was mother's helper.  She helped set the table
when company was due for dinner.  Presently everything was
on, the guest came in, and everyone sat down.  Then Mother
noticed something was missing.

"Susan," she said, "You didn't put a knife and fork at Mr.
Smith's place."

"I thought he wouldn't need them," explained Susan.  "Daddy
says he always eats like a horse!"

Fire investigators on Maui have determined the cause of a blaze that
destroyed a $127,000 home last month - a short in the homeowner's
newly installed fire prevention alarm system. "This is even worse than
last year," said the distraught homeowner, "when someone broke in and
stole my new security system."


The getaway!

A man walked in to a Topeka, Kansas Kwik Shop, and asked for all the
money in the cash drawer. Apparently the take was too small, so he
tied up the store clerk and worked the counter himself for three hours
until police showed up and grabbed him.


Too well educated?

In Medford, Oregon, a 27-year-old jobless man with an MBA blamed his
college degree for his murder of three people. "There are too many
business grads out there," he said. "If I had chosen another field,
all this may not have happened."

STORES STORMED BY SERIOUS SHOPPERS

As dawn crept across America on the morning after Thanksgiving, parking
lots at shopping malls glistened with cars everywhere, filled with
serious shoppers bent on being the first in the doors of the stores.

"This year most stores opened at 6 or 7 in the morning with special
sales," said Sammy Glick, retired sales consultant.  "Next year I
predict that the stores will open at 12:01 AM on Friday after
Thanksgiving, and not close until midnight December 24th."

The non-stop shopping season would double the amount of time available
for shoppers to spend their money, Glick predicted.

Though purchases through the Internet are expected to increase this
year, cyberspace cannot substitute for the pushing and shoving, crowded
streets, and general chaos of going out and buying stuff in person,
Glick explained.

"There seems to be something fundamentally satisfying about fighting
over Furbys and coming home at night up to your eyeballs in debt," Glick
added.
