Ärende: FidoNews Editor MIA?
============================
Hello Carol.

07 Dec 06 01:18, you wrote to me:

CS> *** Quoting Jeff Smith from a message to Carol Shenkenberger ***

 CS>> quandry.

CS>> I face a difficult post and a response, and a desire in my own
CS>> heart to not use and abuse fidonews. Fidonews is more than the
CS>> current holder of the editor

JS>> Agreed. The Fidonews is a part of Fidonet that should not be
JS>> abus or used as a tool for anyone to use to further their own
JS>> agenda. My pr is that I have a rather specific view of Fidonews
JS>> and what I would lik see it as being. Like you I guess I just hate
JS>> to see it be used for pe reasons instead of as a important part of
 JS>> Fidonet.

CS> But the important articles are hard to come by. I have one
CS> 'technical' one that i have been remiss on. I will try to catch that
CS> up. The other, I will do as my own desire allows.

JS>> I would like to also. I don't hate Bjorn or even dislike him.
JS>> I have problems with him as editor but not with him as a person. I
JS>> would very like to see him remain as editor. But he has stated
JS>> clearly that he do care anymore and has allowed the Fidonews echo
JS>> to become what it is to

CS> Ah but the 2 jobs are separate. I see no dichotomy in saying his
CS> moderation style isnt what that echo needs, yet find his Fidonews
CS> handling something else. We'd probably be better off if the moderator
CS> was someone else. Not a specific on him, but as a general rule.

But that's the issue Carol. Would we be better off with a seperate
peron as moderator? In this case yes. In general? Not so much so IMO. I
think that the option to have a seperate person as moderator is good and
would be advisable in this case. But I don't think that the editor should
automatically be precluded from being the moderator. Next question would
then be who would make that determination and be objective in doing so?

CS>> Fidonet now has a thought pattern of Z2 is bigger. If Z1 did that
CS>> when they were bigger, it was not as obvious. It may have held
CS>> sway, but was not the systematic 'your zone vs mine' that we have
CS>> seen in the past 3 years grow.

CS>> People have polarized and it's very obvious from outside the 2
 CS>> zones.

JS>> And that is the problem as I see it. People are hung up on
JS>> which zone is better. Who's way is better. In some cases which
JS>> country is better. I know it sounds naive but I consider us all
JS>> members of Fidonet more than I consider us members of a part of
JS>> Fidonet based on some geographical boundry. As I have said to
JS>> Bjorn and Michiel. Why does it matter that I am from Z1 or that I
JS>> live in the US? Lets use whatever way that works best regardless of
 JS>> who's way it is.

CS> You are correct. It gets more and more so as time goes on.

Yes it does. It does because the majority of us are complacent and
let a vocal few decide for us.

CS> People just were not so polarized when it was the late 80's and early
 CS> 90's here.

CS>> Consider this. Michiel posted one note. I asked a question. I
CS>> got a reply. I got a Fnews article apparently from that. I postd
CS>> here not having seen it, but in ways that address most of it.
CS>> Did I read his article? No. I just had a feeling what weas
CS>> there and addressed things as they came up.

CS>> Could your situiation be like that? Possible? I do not know,
 CS>> only you would know.

JS>> If Michiel had posted a message or a reply in the echo to
JS>> what I in the article or followed with a reply article. I wouldn't
JS>> have had a problem with that at all. In fact I replied in the
JS>> Fidonews echo to his article about you and the nodelist. I
JS>> chose the echo over the Fidonews because I didn't want to use the
JS>> Fidonews as just another forum to argue

CS> Yes but had you replied over a long term on those same subjects?
CS> Thats how I was able to see what Michiel would bring up, before I saw
CS> the article. I addressed much of it about 8-12 hours before the post
CS> came in. Not so spooky, just we'd covered that same ground before.

I understand what you are trying to say. From my point of view I saw
somone who chose to post an article at the same time as mine. That was a
rebuttal or reply to the same points that I was making in my article. A
person who was also a friend and supporter of the editor. Based on the
situation and the history here Carol the conclusion that Michiel was made
privy to my article prior to it being published isn't that hard or much of
a stretch. That is one of the concerns that I have regarding Bjorn as editor.
It is not his technical abilities to be editor. It is his apparent inability
to be fair and unbiased in his treatment of people as editor. That is a
conclusion that I have expressed to Bjorn and he has done little to change
that conclusion. Based on what has been stated I think it boils down to the
fact that the current editor doesn't much care about being or acting as editor
or moderator of the Fidonews echo. I think that the current editor
will refuse to give up the post even though he has lost interest in the job
because he and his supporters look at it from a zonal point of view. In
other words the Fidonews is run run the Z2 way and that is the way it will
stay. A fact that has been made clear in the Fidonews echo.

 CS>> Hehe lets see.

 JS>> Ok. <g>

 CS> Sure nuff!
 CS> xxcarol
