GKA>> A readonly cdrom will it not could do it,

MK>Exactly. So what is that really worth then?

Normally is OS distributed on CDroms, and there is 2 types of kind of a
distributions there is a small there requre lost of Internet doing and a big OS
distributing there not requere Internet for installation but not gives the
latest updates and newest of files. A Big full distribution can bee about a
half t a year old.

GKA>> I have self tried out but not made it t work or find it to succesed

MK>So given this wouldn't it be better to have started out that way and
MK>forget about CD's? I have yet to hear or see any good reason for their
MK>existance computerly speaking. From my observations CD's, and
MK>especially DVD's, cause far more problems then they solve and require

Self if a starup from CDrom seem to be fine can a harddisk installation go to
not work proberly by it not have find the same thing as te cdrom startup have
done. This is then why the cdrom startup has default setup for hardware and the
installation to harrdisk is trying to make the setup there is best need for for
your computer and trying to find all your components in your computer.
You can work find by Linux installation and it find all things first and so
then you reboot to starup bt harddisk after installation then error by missing
card drivers like usb onitor card and network card, the system not like to do
it right, reseason of this can then be some onboard cards like monitorcard and
netcards etc.
So before starting as linux installation is a good idea to find all information
for your motherboard and too for extra cards and their drivers, write them down
and have them install linux to harddisk. The cdrom startup do a real hard
examine of your hardware and search for drivers, where the installation to
harrdisk have to know what type of cards and driver to use.
You can go to thinks if not have the information the right of drivers that it
is one thing the installation means and show you then use it, so by dmesg and
system logs compare it with your own information them and use the to
installation.
I have self out for this, all card on my coputer was onboard cards with special
drivers that Linux not could fine by hd installation and that cd startup have
fine some driver there works and by finish installation and reboot have missed
the cards, and i have to find a extra extern ad-on card and by new cards befor
it works.

GKA>> If it should work must the cd be a RW CDROM.

MK>A burner. Added expense and bloat given that normal disk operations
MK>won't work without additional applications specific to that media.

Doing burn a OS CD or DVD is if you have downloading a iso file for a
distribution.
I do it by my windows and linux should have a burner installed, I do not use to
have a burner on my Linuxs only on my windows systems, the programs for bruing
to CD or DVD it not so spens.

GKA>> A usb hub can too be used to copy or write the log as dmesg to. :-)

MK>Yes. No burner or specialized apps required other than usb
MK>functionality built into the kernel. It works great.

GKA>> Now on days is most people drupping floppies when there is usb hub
GKA>> there can take more datas and floppies can go to not work and gives
 GKA>> error on system.

MK>Yep. Does it matter in the grand scheme of things?

I do not using much of floppy anymore, normally I disabling it on the bios
setup, and using cd/dvd and usb hub to copy thing and files to if I not can
make it by networking copy.

  Take care,
     Gert
