Noooo, I didn't say there's no point for Fidonet.  I'm saying that, in my
opinion, there's not much of a point to have both traditional e-mail and
Fidonet right alongside each other.  Chances are if you have access to Internet
e-mail, the need for Fidonet on the same system isn't really necessary.  It
doesn't mean it wouldn't be fun to do it, or that it is impossible, just that I
don't see much reason to invest time in trying to do it.

I run Synchronet because I want to have a BBS.  That BBS just so happens to be
linked with DoveNet and Fidonet.  I don't run Synchronet simply so I can have
Fidonet.  Binkd, however, is the tool of choice to use if you're interested in
a mailer on *nix that handles the binkp protocol.  There are other networks
aside from Fidonet too, but I'm not subscribed to any of the other FTNs.

I use FreeBSD because it works, and I generally like the Unix philosophy of
things.  That said, I don't use FreeBSD because I can needlessly make it harder
on myself to do things.  That's why I left Linux years ago, because I got tired
of all the crap. :)  Synchronet has done a lot to actually combine the majority
of things together so that they're in one place, and can provide users with
both Internet e-mail, Fidonet netmail and echomail, etc., via a lot of popular
protocols.  So it isn't as if such solutions don't exist.  But I just find it
to be not as much fun and not as rewarding to completely remove the BBS from
the picture.
