So then me getting this to actually work is a complete waste of time other than
to increase my knowledge of how things could work?

Just for the record I am not using the web based editor to create this reply
that technically isn't a reply.  I am using vi offline since the web interface
is broken wrt being useful as an offline messaging thingy although I see a way
it potentially could be used that way.  Good thing it doesn't matter right?

Bottomline is that I would never want a an overbloated browser with additional
capabilties that it cannot compete with vastly superior other applications that
don't web browse since that isn't why they are on this machine.  vi doesn't
require browsing capabilities anymore than a web browser requires an editor.

I already disagreed with you on this point.  There is nothing you can say to
convince me that a browser has any additional useage other than to browse.  I
have better tools at my disposal for things like internetted radio stations and
the such where a browser plugin cannot hope to compete. I have no desire to
replace those tools.

I can say the same for Fido and as you admit the web isn't a suitable
replacement.

As for online forums they aren't the same but a few can be useful at times. 
Most of them are noise at best.

Good for it.  I don't need nor want it to be.

I've noticed that.  They can keep it.  I don't mind.
