Here's what I did: I created a 10gb partition as the last partition on my
master drive. I left it unformatted, IOW, an unallocated partition. I used
Partition Magic for that. Of course you could use GParted to create the same
thing plus any FAT-32 partitions you need for sharing.

When you say a "shared" FAT-32 partition, remember that you can only share it
in the sense that it would be for shared data only, not programs. Linux
programs run on a native file system. (ext3)

And yes, if you can do without WinME that would be best.

ReiserFS is the default file system for many Linux distros and has been around
for quite awhile. Ext3 is better IMO, because it can be easily accessed from
Win2000 or XP with a free driver. BTW, ext3 is also a journaling file system.

You'll need to "export" your bookmarks from Windows Firefox and copy them from
IE in case migrate does not pick them all up.

One thing to look out for... Ubuntu uses GRUB as its bootloader. GRUB is
usually placed on the master drive and installed to the root. If you plan on
doing any type of dual booting with XP, be aware that GRUB will overwrite the
XP boot sector. However, it will set up a boot menu where you can select XP or
Ubuntu on startup.

Regards.
